Italy pursues pragmatic foreign policy in Libya

Primarily focused on the energy and migration files, Giorgia Meloni’s Italian government has pursued a pragmatic approach toward Libya, whereby any interlocutor is appreciated as long as they can satisfy Italian interests.

A new strategic approach is leading Rome to expand its ties to eastern Libya, away from its traditional alignment to Tripoli, with its ambassador increasing the number of his trips to Benghazi, as seen this week.
