After eighteen months at the helm of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Special Representative to the Secretary-General Abdoulaye Bathily left his position citing his frustration over the situation deteriorating as the main cause. Albeit sudden, this announcement is not surprising and further raises concerns about the dire situation facing Libya, with no end in sight in the country’s political crisis.
